Now it’s time for unveiling a number of features and aspects of Ohm Studio’s GUI: Not only did we turn on the respective tab on Ohm Studio’s site, but also put 6 new video teasers online. In each one of them you’ll be able to learn more about Ohm Studio’s refreshingly simple and efficient interface, built from the ground up.‚

Each video explains a little bit of Ohm Studio’s structure while showing concrete examples, talking about automation, modular routing, piano roll innovations, and much more besides. The GUI overall look/skin is still the Alpha Version’s one (we’re keeping the definitive Ohm Studio skin as a suprise for the Beta version) but the intuitive and highly versatile workflows – and their stunning smooth visual – are already there.

Following the announcement of the Ohm Studio – a real-time collaborative DAW/sequencer – Ohm Force is unveiling today the first Ohm Studio live demo, showing some of Ohm Studio’s collaborative features in action. It’s a standalone application for Mac OS X and Windows (in the video the prototype runs on two MacBooks) that will allow musicians from around the world to produce/edit tracks together in real-time.

This video was made at the Ohm Force headquarters (Paris, France) while the Ohm Server is in USA (they use the AWS solution by Amazon). Both laptops were logged into the same Ohm Studio session. Notice that all actions done on one side were automatically synced to the other side.

As announced at the Ohm Studio’s website, Ohm Studio will be a full fledged DAW/sequencer and we’ll be progressively revealing its features at www.ohmstudio.com. This “amateur” live demo is the first of a series, new video content will be released during next weeks/months. Anyone interested on participating in the beta-test can still apply for it at Ohm Studio’s website.

In 2000, a bunch of music geeks gathered around their computers, only to find themselves guided by a strange and ohmstudiomysterious power — the power of Ohm Force. It revealed to them the essence of audio processing which they used to create the now mythical Ohm plug-ins.

But they had a secret goal! This secret and long term task was to venture beyond the plug-in world and explore the other dimension of sound creation: those humanoid artists that play with computers. Thus Ohm Force, by the sweat and steel of its humble, sandwich-peddling warriors, has been laboring to conceive a new type of music workstation — one that will bring real time creative harmony to the world.

Yes, you read that right: Ohm Force is announcing the first real collaborative music workstation in the history of music production: the Ohm Studio — a project with which they aspire to redefine the meaning of online music collaboration. Yay.

Online music collaboration made easier

With Ohm Studio, it will be possible to set up a productive workspace to make music together and with ease. No more big files transfers, no more endless set up incompatibilities. And as with a conventional studio session, communicate with each others thanks to the in-app chat system that makes it simple to share any thought, instruction or comment.

When searching for music partners, you will now be able to search for musicians from around the world. Through the Ohm Studio Cohmunity you will discover collaborative projects that appeal to you and find new people with whom to make music, searching by style, mood, skill, city, country and more. You may discover that the drummer or the singer you have always been looking for is only a few clicks away!

Ohm Studio will also be an elegant tool to showcase your own work and skills, in order to be discovered and/or be invited into groups or sessions. Could it be that you have just the right profile those Brazilian guys need for their funky nu-soul project? For those who have a traditional “local” band/project, made up of people from the same town who actually enjoy meeting and playing together, Ohm Studio will be a great way of expanding their workflow, as the creation process will no longer be limited by the 2 hours they’re actually able to share the same physical place. All of those ideas that always seem hit to come the second one gets back from the studio will not be lost anymore. And the work will continue, even if Peter’s garage is not available for the next few weeks.

And this time we’ll go beyond software: thanks to our generous friends from Muse Research and Development and from KVR Audio, nothing less than a Receptor2 will be shipped to the contest’s big winner! For those who are not aware, we’re talking about a powerful plug-in host, a U$2000 value piece of stand alone hardware that can be used on the studio or on stage to run and control VST plug-ins. Thanks to their generosity the winner of the “Public’s choice” category will grab a tasty 25 SL MkII, in addition of an 1 year subscription of the Computer Music magazine, kindly offered by the news kings from Future Publishing!

The track to be remixed is “Stride”, the new release from talented american progressive house producer/DJ Derek Howell (check out his MySpace profile or take a look at his discography at Discogs). What the contestants will have to do is pretty simple: go to the Cohmpetition’s page at our blog, listen to the original track, download the sample pack, use Ohm Force’s Frohmage filter and/or Symptohm:Melohman Performer Edition synth (both are freeware!) when producing their remix and… show their talent to the world! Ohm Force has released version 1.23 of Symptohm:Melohman, a virtual synthesizer plug-in for Windows and Mac.symptohm_classic_synth

Changes:

  • Corrected a long standing DSP bug in which the plug-in could crash with extreme oscillator settings.
  • Fixed bug in the preset browser which would display an “invalid root directory” and no presets in some cases.
  • RTAS Windows bug with PT 8.0.1 fixed: changing the hardware buffer size with some Ohm Force plug-ins loaded lead to a crash.

Symptohm:Melohman was born to remind the world that great music comes not from cold calculation but from passion. Unlike other synths, bound to rigid curves and predetermined behavior, Symptohm:Melohman responds to your touch, enabling you to control every aspect of its twisted sonic mayhem in a most natural, intuitive and musical way. More sonic control than you ever thought possible is now, quite literally, at your fingertips.
